Embassy of Switzerland in Georgia

As the official representation of Switzerland, the Embassy covers all matters concerning diplomatic relations between the two countries. It represents Swiss interests in the areas of political, economic, financial and legal affairs, as well as science, education and culture.

Responsibilities

The embassy of Switzerland represents Switzerland's interests in the country and provides consular services and visa support for people resident in Georgia and in Armenia.

• New Insurance Requirements for Tourists travelling to Georgia

  Starting from 01.01.2026, all tourists entering Georgia are required to have a valid health and accident insurance policy with a minimum coverage amount of GEL 30’000.00.

  Upon entry, proof of such insurance must be presented, either electronically or in paper form, issued in English or Georgian language, and must include the following mandatory information:

  • Parties to the insurance contract
  • Covered territory
  • Subject matter of the insurance
  • Commencement and expiration dates of the insurance coverage (the full period of a tourist’s stay in Georgia, including both arrival and departure dates, must be covered)
  • Insured risks
  • Amount of the insurance sum (limits)
  • Amount of the insurance premium, place and terms of payment.

  Holders of diplomatic and service passports, accredited staff of diplomatic missions and international organizations as well as their family members, persons entering Georgia under international agreements with Georgia and drivers engaged in international road freight and passenger transportation are exempt from this requirement.

• Political unrest in Georgia

  The situation has been tense since the parliamentary elections 2024 and especially since 28 November 2024. Demonstrations are taking place in Tbilisi and other cities in the country, with partly violent clashes between demonstrators and the security forces, most recently again in connection with the local elections on 4 October 2025.  There are also reports of injuries and arrests. The risk of suddenly finding yourself in the middle of a violent confrontation cannot be ruled out.

  Before and during your trip, stay informed about the current situation by monitoring the media, consulting with your tour operator or local contact person, and follow the instructions of local authorities. Avoid large gatherings and demonstrations of any kind. Exercise caution.
